Dolphin, or dolphin dive, a jump, from standing, onto the hands, after which the chest is lowered to the floor, followed by the legs, in a rolling motion.
History
Dolphins are done in Flashdance by Frosty Freeze . It is usually claimed that the dolphin came to breaking from lofting , suggesting that it was developed in the 1970s. One 1984 breaking book described, "Lofting is diving in the air and landing on the hands, with your body still in the air, back arched, and legs high. Lofting usually involves diving gracefully from spot to spot with some rolling in between dives" . Members of Loft Unlimited performed dolphins alongside the Rock Steady Crew in Portfolio (1986) . The body roll by itself can be seen in kung fu movies (e.g. Snake in the Eagle's Shadow ), and in gymnastics since at least the 1930s . It resembles a worm in reverse, leading some authors to consider one a variation of the other .
